A Special and Safe Halloween Trick or Treating Event
The Mountain Business Association sponsored a special Trick or Treating experience for the area children in 2009. Any person, business, or group who wished to pass out treats to the children was asked to come to the Community Center on Saturday October 31. We had the cars line up around the perimeter of the shelter. We invited all the children to come trick or treating. We knew how difficult it is for children to trick or treat in this rural area and we wanted to make it safe and special for them.
We encouraged all those who want to distribute treats to decorate their vehicles and dress in the Halloween spirit, if they wished! This event will be repeated next year.

Saturday, May 2nd was our 5th annual MABA Fish-O-Ree. We had about 100 youngsters up to 14 years of age who were catching fish in our two tanks at the Lazansky Community Center in Mountain.
We have posted four slideshows containing photos of the youngsters fishing with their siblings, parents and grandparents. The excitement when they caught a fish was great! We divided the photos into four slideshows because we had so many photos.

If you see your child or grandchild on the photos, please send an email to photos@mtnaba.org - telling us what photo numbers had your youngster, their names and the town where they live. We'll email the photos of your children to you.

The 4th Annual Fire "Quacker" 500, held on Sept 20 (2008), was a huge success. Everyone was relieved to see the water level in Chute Pond was almost back up to normal. With close to 800 ducks being sold and many of their "owners" there to root them on, the ducks were ready to race. As I looked through the crowd I could see many observers had on their "Duck Attire". You could feel the tension mounting as the boats got into position. Finally, the ducks were launched and as everyone sat and watched - so did the ducks!! They decided to just sit in the water instead of racing! Finally, after a little persuasion with some boat waves, they decided to mosey on down to the finish line. They definitely were by no means in any hurry. I guess they were just taking advantage of their time in the limelight. The winners were (and all but one were in attendance) 1st place of $1,000.00 was Cathie Williquette, who put her address down and the Bob-o-Link; 2nd place was Kathy Jenders, Milwaukee; 3rd place was Debbie Hiles, Sheboygan; 4th place was Doug Weller, Mountain; 5th place was Dave Wedekind, Mountain; 6th place was Dan Guendert, Milwaukee; 7th place was Chelsie Strehlow, Suring; and last duck to cross the finish line was Carol Bartz, IL. With most of the winners being present, the celebrating went on into the evening. I can assure you a good time was had by all. Music by South Branch Band, food and refreshments added to the festivities. Mark this event on your calendar for next year, the third Saturday in September. It's one you sure won't want to miss.

It was a beautiful weekend and the crowds showed it. On Friday, July 4th, 2008, the first day of the celebration, things were a little slow. With the Breed Parade and Townsend fireworks, it was expected. Saturday however, made up for the slow start. The bouncies and motion simulator were pretty much going steady during the day and as evening started to come, the crowds came in. The fireworks show was well worth it.
The Mountain Fire Dept Auxiliary would like to thank everyone who helped out, as this event would not go on with out the help of the Dusty Trails ATV Club, The Mountain Area Business Association and all the volunteers who show up and help out. Too many to name individually, but you all know who you are and know that we truly appreciate your help.
The winners of the drawings are: $1,000.00 went to David McMahon of Gillett, $500.00 went to Colleen Firgens of Suring, The week stay at Everbreeze went to McMahon's Irish Waters of Suring, and the NASCAR mirror went to Hughes of Mountain. The gun went to Tim Krizek of Mountain.
Thank you to everyone who bought tickets, came and enjoyed the music and fireworks and softball games and supported our Fire Department Auxiliary. |
2nd Annual Memorial Weekend Parade
On May 25th, 2008, there were smiling people everywhere in Mountain. Why? Because of the Parade sponsored by the Mountain Area Business Association. Everyone loves a parade and it is very evident in these pictures. From our veterans and the fire trucks to Muscle Maniacs and even Uncle Sam made an appearance in our parade! With about 60 units and tons of viewers this parade was deemed a success by all.
